World Osteoporosis Day

2001: Invest in your bones

2001

As the first World Osteoporosis Day at which IOF issued posters and a thematic report, WOD 2001 marked the first extensive media outreach with the theme ‘education’ focusing on bone development in children and adolescents.

The thematic report ‘Invest in your bones, how diet, life styles and genetics affect bone development in young people, authored by well-known expert Professor Philippe Bonjour, offered the first easy-to-read synthesis of current information on factors affecting bone development. The report was translated into more than 20 languages and distributed to health and education ministries, schools and hospitals worldwide.
