The role of nutrition in building and maintaining strong bones was the focus of the 2006 ‘Bone Appétit’ World Osteoporosis Day campaign. Bone-healthy nutrition helps to:
- Build peak bone mass in young people
- Maintain general bone health during adulthood and in the elderly
- Enhance treatment and rehabilitation in people with osteoporosis and fractures
The award-winning campaign generated an unprecedented number of global media events, including cooking demonstrations and public events hosted by leading chefs. Numerous public service announcements featuring VIPs and well-known chefs were issued in conjunction with the campaign. In addition, IOF launched a Bone-friendly Recipes database which includes calcium-rich recipes from IOF’s member osteoporosis societies worldwide.
