A Bone Health exercise demonstration to educate and raise public awareness of World Osteoporosis Day and Bone Health Month. The event attracted 32 participants (aged between 21 to 89).
They shared their personal stories of near misses in slips, trips and falls, and of the impact of fragility fractures. The group enjoyed trying out a range of new exercises to improve balance, bone impact (playing pickleball), strength, weight bearing and flexibility.
Participants told us: “The programme should be run across the country”.
“It made me realise I need to do a lot more than walking and swimming to protect my bones”.
“I will talk with my grandchildren about what they can do to take care of their bones”.
“I enjoyed the day; it was great to meet new people and to learn about bone strengthening exercises to protect my bones”.
“The healthy bones” lunch was delightful”.
“I will encourage my grandparents to come to another one of these events”
“I liked the exercise demonstrations because I can do them from home.”
