Multiple events by Yaroslavl State Medical University

On October 20 the whole world marks World Osteoporosis Day. Its purpose is to draw attention to this disease, which is one of the main causes of mortality in people 45 years and older.  In 2024, the main slogan of the campaign in the Russian Federation is “Say NO to Fragile Bones”, and the leading direction is the prevention of recurrent fractures.

For the second year Yaroslavl State Medical University in close cooperation with the society of osteoporosis patients “Osteorus” has been organizing events aimed at raising awareness of older people about this disease and conducting examinations in risk groups.

Together with the Ministry of Health of the Yaroslavl Region, an information campaign was conducted, which included the development of informational posters “One is Enough! Don't let the next fracture happen”, as well as educational lectures for patients by Dr. Ksenia Belova, Vice-President of the Russian Association on Osteoporosis, on the prevention of fractures and falls. They were forwarded to all medical organizations of Yaroslavl providing care of the adult population.

On October 18, a conference for students on osteoporosis and fracture prevention was held at the N.V. Solovyov Emergency Hospital.

On October 20, the video “Children's TV Channel “Health” created by the  children of the orphanage “Solnechny” was posted on the University social network (VKontakte) , which gained more than 2600 views.

Residents training in therapeutic specialties were taught to determine fracture risk using the FRAX calculator and to assess the risk of falls.

On October 21, they conducted a survey at 5 major outpatient clinics in the city among elderly visitors.

On October 27 the students of the University held an event in the big shopping center “RIO” within the framework of which they assessed the risk of fractures among the visitors using FRAX and talked on healthy lifestyle to protect bone tissue.

It is important to mark that valuable tools recommended by IOF were used during all WOD Campaign.

One more sign of increasing the collaboration of “Osteorus” and RAOP with YSMU is the opening exhibition of the children’s drawings and posters dedicated to WOD-24 in one of the buildings of the university.

This year the competition of children’s drawings is held by “Osteorus” for the 11th time.
